8.2 No Guaranteed Retention: While we make reasonable efforts to preserve your data, we do not guarantee permanent storage. You should not rely on the Application as your sole backup for personal notes.

8.3 Anonymized Insights: We may use anonymized, non-identifiable patterns from User Content (such as common study topics or note frequency) to improve the Application. We will never publish or share your identifiable User Content.

9. Payment and Subscriptions

9.1 Purchases: Certain features may require a paid subscription or one-time purchase. All purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store are subject to the respective store's refund policies.

9.5 Account Deletion and Billing: Deleting your IllumiTrain account removes your application data, but it does not automatically cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. You must cancel or manage that subscription separately in the relevant store.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Application is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Application will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that specific educational outcomes will be achieved.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, IllumiTrain shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or educational standing, arising from your use of the Application.

Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the preceding 12 months.

12. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless IllumiTrain from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the Application, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

13. Modifications to the Service

We may update content, modify features, adjust adaptive models, or change the Application without prior notice. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.

14. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, abuse system functionality, or attempt data extraction. Users may delete their accounts at any time from Settings > Profile > Delete Account, or by following the help steps at /account-deletion.html.

15. Community Features

Users may choose to share structured milestone achievements with other authenticated users. No free-form messaging is permitted. IllumiTrain reserves the right to remove milestones or suspend accounts for abuse of community features. Community participation is entirely optional and disabled by default.

  • We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
  • We do not share your identifiable data for advertising purposes.
  • We do not use your data to make legally binding decisions about you.
  • We do not serve third-party advertisements in the Application.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored using Firebase (Google Cloud Platform) with industry-standard security measures. Study progress is stored locally on your device and synced to our cloud database when online.

While we implement reasonable security measures, no system is completely secure. You provide data at your own risk. We are not liable for unauthorized access caused by factors beyond our reasonable control.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following categories of third-party services:

  • Authentication: Firebase Authentication (Google) plus configured identity providers such as Apple and Microsoft for secure sign-in.
  • Cloud Storage: Firebase Realtime Database for progress sync.
  • AI Services: Google Gemini for AI-powered study assistance (when you use the AI tutor feature).
  • Payment Processing: Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Stripe for premium purchases.
  • Push Notifications: Firebase Cloud Messaging for study reminders.

These providers operate under their own privacy policies. We share only the minimum data necessary for each service to function.

6. Behavioral Analysis (Optional)

When enabled, the Behavioral Analysis feature collects additional structured learning data to improve our adaptive systems:

  • Detailed question interaction events (attempts, timing, transitions).
  • Session phase progression.
  • Internal study engine decision context.

This data is stored under your user account and is accessible only to you and our system administrators. It is used exclusively to improve the adaptive study experience.

You can disable Behavioral Analysis at any time in Settings. You can also permanently delete all collected behavioral data from Settings.

7. Your Data Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: View your data through the Application's settings and export features.
  • Delete: Permanently delete your account and synced cloud data from Settings > Profile. You can also use the public deletion support page at /account-deletion.html if you need help or are completing a store-mandated deletion request.
  • Export: Download your study progress data from Settings.
  • Opt out: Disable optional data collection features like Behavioral Analysis and push notifications.

We may retain anonymized, non-identifiable aggregated data for research and system improvement after account deletion.

When you delete your account, we remove your Firebase-authenticated profile, synced study data, notifications settings, and linked analytics or behavioral records tied to that account. Billing records maintained by Apple, Google, Stripe, or other payment providers remain subject to those providers' legal and financial retention requirements.

8. Children's Privacy

IllumiTrain is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

Part III: Cookie and Local Storage Policy

IllumiTrain uses browser local storage and similar technologies to provide core functionality. This section explains what we store and why.

1. Essential Local Storage

The Application stores data locally on your device for core functionality:

  • Study Progress: Your answers, scores, streaks, and session history so you can study offline.
  • Authentication State: Login session data to keep you signed in.
  • Application Settings: Your theme preference, active certification, and study preferences.
  • Cached Content: Question data cached locally for fast, offline access.

This local storage is essential for the Application to function. It cannot be disabled without losing core functionality.

2. Service Worker Cache

The Application uses a Service Worker to cache assets (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images) for offline access and faster loading. This cache is automatically managed and updated when new versions of the Application are available.

3. Analytics

We may use lightweight, privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the Application is used. This data helps us identify performance issues and improve the user experience. We do not use analytics data for advertising.

4. Third-Party Technologies

Third-party services used by the Application (such as Firebase) may set their own cookies or local storage entries. These operate under the respective provider's privacy policies.

5. Your Control

You can clear the Application's local data through your browser settings or through the Application's Settings page (Data Management). Clearing local data will remove your offline progress until it is re-synced from the cloud.

IllumiTrain incorporates open source software components licensed under their respective open source licenses (including MIT License and others). We are grateful to the open source community for their contributions.
